Welcome to The Collective Quarterly

Welcome to our second issue of The Collective Quarterly.

A new third era, the end of self-regulation and elections (seemingly everywhere!) means 2024 is already a year to remember.

2024 is the year of elections, with an unprecedented number of voters – roughly 49% of the world’s population – set to participate in national elections in at least 64 countries (along with the European Union).

At the time of writing there is still no official announcement regarding the timing of the UK election, although the Conservatives appear to be implying that the poll is pencilled for October (but it could be as early as June!). Chancellor Jeremy Hunt also hinted that he could potentially hold a second fiscal event later this year, following on from his Spring Budget in March.

The Spring Budget may not have contained the showstopper policies that many people were anticipating, but it did feature significant emphasis on innovation, aiming to boost the country’s science and technology sectors and there was good news for select pockets of the UK creative sector.

Spring may be officially here, with sunnier days on our horizon, but it’s always time to “make hay” in the Creator Economy. 2024 will see the emergence of funds specifically investing in creator led or driven business and a growth in funds created or backed by creators themselves. The creator economy is on the cusp of a new, third era – so watch this space! From supply chains to sustainability, the era of self-regulation is drawing to a close around the world with new rules set to have a widespread impact on both consumers, fashion brands and manufacturers. How can the fashion industry tread the path toward sustainability within the current market economy? Guest contributor, Dr Ahmed Zaidi explores the opportunities that AI and technology can bring.

Lewis Silkin experts also take a look at the Big Idea of Watermarking AI, as well as an in-depth exploration of future innovations around mobility – a blossoming area which is promising self-driving vehicles in the UK by 2026 and flying taxis by 2030.

Enjoy reading.
